Thirty-year forfeiture period

The accounts and contracts concerned by the Act No. 2014-617 of June 13, 2014 on dormant Bank accounts and escheated life insurance contracts, known as the "Eckert Act", and by Order No. 2018-95 of February 14, 2018, are kept at the Caisse des Dépôts. After a period of 30 years of inactivity, if the sums from these accounts and contracts that have not been claimed by their holders or beneficiaries they will be transferred definitively to the State and the Overseas Collectivities (New Caledonia, French Polynesia et Wallis-et-Futuna).

This 30-year period of inactivity includes the period during which the sums are kept by the Financial institution (bank, Insurance company or Employee savings organization) and by Caisse des Dépôts.

As a result, accounts and contracts considered inactive in the year 1994 are subject, from 2024, to the thirty-year forfeiture to the Public Treasury in application of the Article L.518-24 of the Monetary and Financial Code and to the Overseas Collectivities in application of Ordinance No. 2018-95 of February 14, 2018.

The Account holders and contract subscribers or their beneficiaries may request to recover the sums due to them from Caisse des Dépôts no later than December 31, 2024. After this date, the assets will be definitively transferred to the State or to the Overseas Collectivities.

Lists of the forfeiture of previous years: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

As a reminder, the assets affected by the above-mentioned annual lapses (from 2017 to 2023) have already been transfered to the State or to the Overseas Territories. As a result, no request for restitution can be made to Caisse des Dépôts, which no longer has these amounts at its disposal.
